| Poipu Information |
Poipu,
Kauai is abundant in choices to fit your
activities and recreation needs. Snorkeling,
diving and surfing are among the more popular
water sports, besides, of course, relaxing
and enjoying the sun on one of Poipu's many
beaches. There is also championship golf
on two well-designed courses, horseback
riding, kayaking, tennis, biking, fishing
and sailing. Hike the spectacular 4 mile
round trip coastal trail to Mahaulepu Beach
or learn about our amazing history by driving,
walking or biking the 10-mile Koloa Heritage
Trail. On those less-adventurous days, shopping
is found in the quaint and charming shopping
villages of Poipu and Old Koloa Town, and
at the well known Kukui Grove Shopping Center. |
Whether you favor Thai, Italian or American
dining - the choices are diverse with over
two dozen restaurants in the area. From
a casual breakfast or lunch to a romantic
dinner, Poipu's "Restaurant Row" offers
a variety of cafes and restaurants to choose
from. Many Hawaii businesses in the area
can help you with a diversity of services
including banking, medical facilities, cleaners,

Poipu’s Climate |
| Kauai is a Hawaiian island
of seven micro climates ranging from dry
desert to tropical rain forest. Poipu Beach
has a semi-arid tropical climate. The near-by
Haupu Mountain range blocks most prevailing
showers. The average annual rainfall in
Poipu is 34 inches. By comparison, Miami
receives 55 inches. In the winter, daytime
temperatures in Poipu range from the mid
70's to the lower 80's. Nighttime temperatures
are in the low to mid 60's. In the summer,
daytime temperatures go as high as the upper
80's, and during the night, down into the
low 70's. When showers make it into the
Poipu area, they are usually brief. We always
recommend wearing natural fiber clothing
such as cotton which is most comfortable
in the tropics. We also recommend packing
a sweater or jacket and long pants to take
on trips up into the mountains, where the
air, at 4,000 feet, is cooler. Our prevailing
trade winds provide a natural cooling effect
most of the time. |

Poipu’s Water Temperature
|
|
Poipu waters are inviting year-round, averaging
74° F (23° C) and reaching close to
80° F (26° C) in the summer months.
